Disney is to close the FOX channel in September 30, 2021, more than half a year before the anticipated launch of streaming service Disney+.
FOX, acquired by Disney in 2019, will go dark across MultiChoice’s DStv, StarTimes, StarSat and Zuku. Fox News, which was retained by the Murdoch family, remains available in the region.
Disney withdrew FOX Life and Disney XD in September 2020 as part of a global withdrawal of its linear channels.
It’s anticipated Disney+ will launch in Africa in June 2022 as part of an expanded footprint that also includes parts of the Middle East and South Africa.
