Cyfrowy Polsat loses pay-TV subs, introduces new 4K receiver

August 19, 2021 07.02 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Poland’s Cyfrowy Polsat ended the second quarter with 4,961,000 pay-TV RGUs.

This, according to the company in its latest set of results, was 40,000, or 0.8%, lower than in the same period last year and mainly due to the lower number of provided satellite TV services. “Nevertheless, despite a decrease of the base we continue to view pay TV as an area with potential to build customer value and consequently the scale of our revenues”.

Meanwhile, the total number of contract services provided by the company stood at 15,427,000 as of June 30, or 3% more than a year earlier. ARPU in Q2 amounted to PLN91.4 (€20), or 5.7% more than a year earlier. Churn rate was at a low level of 7%, or 0.6pp more than a year earlier. Cyfrowy Polsat’s revenues in Q2 were PLN3,159.7 million (PLN2,862.7 million) and its net profit PLN541.7 million (PLN290.7 million).

In a separate development, Cyfrowy Polsat will make a new 4K receiver available to its customers in September. Known as Polsat Box 4, it will include Bluetooth, Duo (allowing for connection to both satellite TV and cable IPTV) and a WiFi connection.

Also included will be the Polsat Box Go app, giving online access to over 100 TV channels and thematic services.
