A decision on the dismissal of the head of Slovenian public TV Natalija Gorscak has been left to Andrej Grah Whatmough, the DG of RTV Slovenia.
This follows an extraordinary session of the RTV Slovenia Programme Council in which there were insufficient councilors present to make a decision.
The decision to dismiss the director of Slovenian public TV may be taken by the DG without the consent of the Programme Council if the latter does not decide within 15 days of receiving the proposal.
Whatmough said: “The decision on the proposal to dismiss the director of television was necessary, as Television Slovenia is facing a significant decline in television viewership. The fact that we are watched by 70,000 fewer viewers today than in 2012 is worrying. Therefore, I believe that measures are needed to raise both the quality and viewership of programmes, as this is the only way RTV Slovenia can fulfill its mission. I point out that this is not a political decision, I just want quality, but at the same time watchable and watched programmes. I will meet with the director of television tomorrow and discuss further cooperation, and I will make a final decision on dismissal by Friday”.
