Latvian telecom companies have called on the country’s PM to address failings of a draft electronic communications law.
According to Dienas Bizness, they have written to Artus Krisjanis Karins asking him to instruct the Ministry of Transport to develop proposals for removing obstacles to the development of electronic communications infrastructure.
It adds that the companies say the current wording of the draft law makes the construction of communication networks unreasonably expensive and time-consuming.
Moreover, it does not meet the preconditions for the development of the sector and does not allow Latvia to achieve the goals set by the EU.
All the major telcos in Latvia have signed the letter.
They include Latvijas Mobilais Telefons, Tet, Tele2, Bite Latvija and SJSC Latvian State Radio and Television Centre.
