Sofia Mitrofana to head Russia’s Premier

August 6, 2021 10.30 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Sofia Mirofanova (formerly Kvashilava) has been appointed CEO of Gazprom-Media’s on demand platform Premier, effective August 9.

Ivan Grodetsky, who previously held this position, has decided to leave the company.

As the CEO of Premier, Mitrofanova will be responsible for the strategic development and operational management of the video service, expanding its audience and attracting new subscribers. She will also oversee the further modernisation of the service’s IT infrastructure, which is aimed at improving the user experience. In addition, under her leadership, the content line of her own original projects will be formed.

Mitrofanova has been working in the media business for over 15 years. Prior to joining Gazprom-Media in 2020, she held the positions of general producer at Okko Entertainment and director of content at Rambler Group, director of content at the online cinema ivi.ru and director of sales of digital products at The Walt Disney Company CIS. She also worked for Viasat World, ran the Russian office of the Polish media company ITI Group, and launched the Polish-language film channel War and Peace.

Commenting on the appointment, Alexander Zharov, general director of Gazprom-Media, said: “We are grateful to Ivan Grodetsky for the work done. We will continue to develop all content projects for the Originals line that were launched under the leadership of Ivan. Now the Premier video service team faces an ambitious task – to become not only the “home of Russian cinema” for Russian viewers all over the world, but also to take a leading position in the domestic market of online cinemas. I am sure that Sofia’s professional experience, managerial competencies and industrial expertise will allow us to achieve our goals as efficiently and quickly as possible. She will continue to further develop and strengthen the Premier video service by expanding the original content line and attracting a new audience”.
