Telekom Srbija is reported to be in advanced talks to buy the cable operator Posta net, which is currently owned by Posta Srbije.
Demostat says that although Posta net has only a small market share, by acquiring it the telco would see its cable market share in terms of subscribers increase to 54.6%, exceeding the 46.7% of its main competitor SBB.
This would be a major change from the end of last year, when Telekom had a 39.9% share, followed by SBB (32.2%), Supernova (12.5%) and Posta net (1.2%). Since then Telekom Srbija officially completed the acquisition of Supernova on June 1.
In the cable content sector, SBB was the dominant player at the end of last year (45.5%), followed by Telekom (29.2%), Supernova (14.8%) and Posta net (2.7%).
Broadband TV News notes that Telekom Srbija has been widely criticised for agreeing to pay what is seen as an excessive €600 million for rights to the English Premier League (EPL), €200 million of which it has already handed over.
United Group has also produced evidence of Telekom Srbija trying to force the company’s local operations, which include SBB, out of the country.
