Thorsten Braun, currently Chief Content & Revenue Officer, will become the new Managing Director of German children’s and family channel Super RTL.
The 49-year-old takes over from long-time head Claude Schmit (60), who will join the channel’s advisory board on August 1, 2021.
“After more than 20 years at the helm of this extraordinary company and always achieving new, big goals in a challenging market, now – with the merger of Super RTL with Mediengruppe RTL – is the right time to hand over operational responsibility to Thorsten,” said Schmit. “In my future role on the advisory board, I will continue to be closely involved in the continuation of Super RTL’s success story and actively shape the process of closer integration with Mediengruppe RTL.”
Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland had announced in March 2021 that it would acquire the 50% stake in Super RTL held by Walt Disney, thereby taking over full ownership of the free-TV channel. The competition authorities in Germany and Austria have approved the transaction.
