The Czech Association of Satellite Operators has filed a lawsuit with the European Court of Justice against the European Commission.
Digizone reports that while its details are unknown, the association has decided to challenge the EC’s approval of compensation to Ceske Radiokomunikace (CRa) and Digital Broadcasting, both of which operate digital terrestrial TV multiplexes, during the Czech Republic’s transition to the DVB-T2 standard.
During the transition, the state extended frequency allocations to TV broadcasters free of charge, in a move that the association argues favoured one for of transmission over another.
The EC said in January 2020 that it was necessary to motivate broadcasters to give up their frequencies in the 700 MHz band ahead of the allocation of the frequencies to 5G mobile networks.
Broadband TV News notes that the transition to DVB-T2 was completed in the Czech Republic in late 2020.
