TV5 to show Olympics in HD on DTT in Finland

July 14, 2021 10.42 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Discovery Finland and technical service provider Digita have agreed to broadcast the Tokyo Summer Olympics and the Beijing Winter Olympics in HD quality on Finland’s digital terrestrial TV network (DTT).

The Olympics will be available in HD quality 24 hours per day throughout Finland during the games. The Tokyo Summer Olympics will be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021, with the Beijing Winter Olympics taking place from February 4 to 20, 2022.

“We are delighted about our agreement with Discovery and that we can offer the Olympics on terrestrial TV in HD quality throughout Finland. In sports broadcasts, sharp picture quality emphasises the viewers’ sense of presence, which makes the viewing experience even more enjoyable,” said Teppo Ahonen, Vice President responsible for Digita’s TV business.

Elina Valtia, Vice President, Operations at Discovery Finland, added: “With HD broadcasts, we guarantee the best possible viewing experience of the Olympic Games for all spectators. We will be the only Finnish channel showing the events of the Tokyo Summer Olympics around the clock.”

During the Olympics, TV5’s HD channel will be available on Digita’s terrestrial network in a 99.96% population coverage area in multiplex B on channel 27. To receive the channel, viewers are recommended to perform a channel search on their reception device.

Discovery Finland is the official home of the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. The broadcaster’s free-to-air channel TV5 will show the events of the Tokyo games in HD 24/7, accompanied by coverage on streaming service Discovery+. Discovery Finland’s offering is complemented by content shown on Kutonen TV and Eurosport 1 and 2.
