The number of fibre broadband connections in Turkey increased by 24.7% in the year to March 31.
According to the Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK), they stood at 4,175,015 as of the end of the first quarter, up from 3,347,745 in Q1 2020.
Meanwhile, the number of xDSL and cable internet connections increased by 14.2% and 16.9% to 11,180,686 and 1,328,094 respectively over the same period.
BTK notes that the total number of internet (fixed and mobile) subscriptions stood at 83,910,495 as of the end of Q1, or 8.4% more than a year earlier.
It also says that revenues in the electronic communication sector in Q1 amounted to TL21 billion (€2.03 billion), or 19.2% more than in the same period last year.
Investment in the sector in Q1 came to TL3.921 billion, up 12.9% on the first quarter of last year.
The total number of operators providing services in the electronic communications sector stood at 450 and they had a total of 815 authorisations.
