More that 50 million unique visitors came to Eurosport.com in June 2020, close to double the 2019 visitor peak.
The broadcaster, which in two weeks time will be covering Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, says the rise represents a 75% increase on the previous year. It’s also higher than in 2018 when Eurosport covered Games PyeongChang 2018 and FIFA World Cup Russia 2018.
Eurosport is now on track to achieve the highest number of unique monthly visitors for more than 3 years.
Scott Young, Senior VP of Content and Production, Discovery, said: “The significant rise in the number of fans engaging with Eurosport is a testament to the unique stories our experts and content teams tell every day. After a challenging year for sport during 2020, Eurosport’s sustained digital growth underlines how we immerse fans with the sports they love, available however they choose to watch, read or follow.”
Eurosport will be looking to maintain the momentum as its sports content moves to the new Discovery+ streaming app. So far this year, Eurosport’s own app has also seen a strong uplift in audiences.
The growth in Eurosport.com visitors between January and June was driven by Eurosport’s local sites, including France (+43% vs January – June 2020); Germany (124%) Italy (+52%); Spain (+25%); the UK (+232%).
