Poland’s film industry is likely to benefit to the tune of PLN22-23 million (€4.87-5.09 million) this year from a tax on VOD services that was introduced in 2020.
Quoting Radoslaw Smigulski, the director of the Polish Film Institute (PISF), Wirtualne Media reports that the legislation that introduced the tax envisaged an annual figure of PLN15-16 million and the last two quarters of 2020 saw PISF receive a total of PLN9.2 million.
This was followed by PLN5.5 million in Q1 this year and given the growth in the Polish VOD market a higher than expected figure for 2021 is likely.
Legislation requiring VOD services to contribute 1.5% of their revenues from subscribers or advertising to the Polish film industry came into effect on July 1, 2020.
