Orion joins ex Sony channels project

June 25, 2021 09.26 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Orion has become a key technical partner with National Media Group (NMG) and Media-Telecom in the launch of the new TV channels .red. .black and .sci-fi in Russia and the CIS countries.

As previously reported by Broadband TV News, the channels will replace services operated by Sony but will still carry some of its content.

Orion will provide a full range of technical services for the preparation and distribution of the channels, via the Horizons 2 and Express-AM5 satellites, as well as terrestrially, to all pay-TV operators in Russia. The channels will also be available to subscribers of its DTH platform Telekarta.

Commenting on the development, Orion’s CEO Kirill Makhnovsky said: “The market always meets with interest the emergence of new channels. The new family is distinguished by high quality modern content. And today it is the main trump card in the struggle for the heart of the consumer. We are glad to be involved in the launch of this project”.

Andrey Trufanov, deputy director of the Telecom Services Department at Orion, added: “Our cooperation with NMG and Media-Telecom is an excellent example of how an integrated approach to choosing a technical partner can expand the capabilities of broadcasters. I am sure that both the partners-operators and subscribers will appreciate the new TV channels at their true worth”.

Alexander Kosarim, general director of Media-Telecom, a joint venture between NMG and Rostelecom, said: “The Orion group of companies is our long-time partner in channel distribution and we are pleased to expand our cooperation. We are confident that our joint efforts will allow viewers to enjoy their favourite programs, TV series and films”.
