Ukraine’s leading cable operator Volia and the OTT platform Megogo have signed a cooperation agreement covering UEHA football competitions.
Starting next season, the pop-up channel Megogo Football, which includes the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League, will be available to Volia subscribers.
Megogo secured its first ever rights to European football in January and can show matches in Ukraine on all platforms, including TV, from the 2021/2022 until 2024. They were held from 2018 until 2020/2021 by Media Group Ukraine (MGU) and Volia. However, in autumn 2020 Volia and Megogo entered into a partnership to make European Cup competitions available on Megogo through Volia channels. Now, the new agreement between the two parties makes Megogo channels available to Volia subscribers.
In a statement, Volia said: “First of all, we would like to congratulate our partners on Megogo with such an outstanding achievement. “At Volia, we believe that high-level competition is when you can and should become partners to meet customer needs and develop the entire segment. It is especially important that the tender was won by the OTT platform, which will force traditional players to reconsider their attitude to online television and will be a strong incentive for the development of the entire market. Football is the most popular sport on the planet. Among his fans are millions of Ukrainians. According to our data, more than 40% of our subscribers regularly follow sports events. Our goal is to give our customers even more vivid emotions, sharing with them their passion for sports number 1”.
Ivan Shestakov, Megogo’s strategic development director, added: “We have repeatedly noted the fact that in our market it is very important to consolidate efforts with other players. Especially now, when the industry is not experiencing the quietest times. The market must grow and its players must develop. Therefore, we are pleased to continue our cooperation with Volia. Now Volia users will receive a new sports product from Megogo, which we hope will pleasantly surprise them”.
