Spanish telco spend falls

June 14, 2021 12.16 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Spanish households spent less on telecom services in 2020.

According to the regulator CNMC, the average spend on quadruple packages (fixed and mobile telephony, fixed and mobile broadband) fell by €1.6 year-on-year to €49 a month in Q4 2020, while that for quintuple packages (the same as quadruple, plus pay-TV) saw an even greater reduction, by almost €3 to €77.9.

CNMC adds that Spanish households prefer contracted package offer, with almost 40% having internet, fixed and mobile telephony and pay-TV.

The regulator also notes that pay-TV penetration reached 45% of households in the second half of last year and that 70% of households with fixed broadband opt for FTTH technology.
