Media Capital Group and CNN have signed a memorandum of understanding for a licensing agreement that will result in the creation of CNN Portugal.
In a statement, Media Capital says it will programme and operate the channel under licence from CNN, which will also provide training, consultancy and access to content from the entire CNN portfolio.
It adds that “with this agreement, a new chapter in the history of TV in Portugal opens, a partnership with one of the most innovative, influential and prestigious TV channels worldwide. CNN is a top global reference in accurate, free and independent information. Media Capital Group shares these values and considers this agreement and the success of this partnership to be of the utmost relevance for the future of Portuguese audiovisual services”.
Media Capital concludes by saying that it will provide updates and further information about the project following discussions with regulatory authorities.
Media Capital’s broadcasts assets include six TV channels under the TVI brand, as well as the digital platform TVI Player.
