Sky Sport News returns to pay-TV in Germany

May 21, 2021 12.08 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland is converting Sky Sport News back into a pay-TV channel at the end of July 2021.

The 24-hour sports news channel will then only be available to subscribers of the Entertainment package or customers of the Sky Ticket streaming service.

Sky Sport News was launched as a pay-TV channel on December 1, 2011 and moved to free-to-air television in December 2016 after five years. The return to pay-TV comes at the start of the new Bundesliga football season and the opening of the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

“Through the showcase on free-to-air TV, all sports fans in Germany have been able to take a look into the world of Sky Sport in recent years and see for themselves the quality of our sports offering. With the return to the Sky subscription, our customers can look forward to even more exclusive news, background information and, above all, live windows into current Sky broadcasts, in addition to the new exclusivity,” said Charly Classen, Executive Vice President Sport at Sky Deutschland.

[UPDATE July 20, 2021] The return of Sky Sport News to the pay-TV line-up will take place on July 21, 2021. The channel will be available to all Sky Deutschland subscribers via basic package Sky Entertainment and streaming service Sky Ticket.
