TiVo says it will use the assets of the bankrupt MobiTV to expand its addressable market for IPTV solutions to the entire North American MSO and telecom operator market.
The company emerged as the successful bidder in the auction to acquire the MobiTV assets, where TiVo faced competition from Roku and Amino Communications.
TiVo bid $18.5 million for its prize; Amino had made an $11.7 million cash bid and a Roku-RPX joint venture $5 million.
“The MobiTV solution provides an attractive extension of TiVo’s IPTV Pay-TV service offerings by adding managed services with the ability to reduce deployment time and onboarding costs,” the company said in a statement.
The acquisition includes MobiTV’s patent portfolio, which is highly complementary to Xperi’s existing media patent portfolio.
