Netflix could have over 1 million customers in Russia by the end of this year.
Quoting financial information about Entertaining Online Service, the company which manages Netflix in Russia, published in the Spark-Interfax database, Kommersant reports that the SVOD service’s income and net profit in the last 2.5 months of 2020 amounted to R462.96 million (€5.15 million) and R24.4 million respectively.
Based on this data, it can be deduced that the number of paid Netflix in Russia stood at between 180,000-500,000 as of the end of 2020. Taking into account growth rates, this total could double by the end of this year.
Although Netflix has been available in the country since 2015, most of its content is not dubbed into the Russian language.
Netflix has since last September been operated by the National Media Group (NMG) due to legislative restrictions limiting foreign ownership of services with over 100,000 Russian users to 20%.
