Premier takes Russian SVOD lead

March 23, 2021 13.26 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Gazprom Media’s Premier was watched by 51% of viewers paying for on demand services in Russia on the first quarter.

Quoting a new study by Telecom Daily, Gazprom Media says it was followed by Netflix (46%) and Wink (45%), while free content was mostly watched by viewers of ivi (74%), Megogo (72%) and KinoPoisk (71%). In addition, 27% of respondents noted that they do not pay for streaming at all, as they “have enough free functionality”.

The study also found that subscribers to SVOD services pay on average R315 (€3.54) a month.

Furthermore, more than half of the respondents (57%) use online on demand services quite often, 24% almost every day and 33% 2-3 times a week.

In general, their share has grown by 6% over six months.

Around a quarter (26%) of respondents watch a service several times a month, and 17% 1-2 times a month.
