Tricolor inks ViacomCBS deal

Russia’s Tricolor has entered into a into a licensing agreement with ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group, whose portfolio includes Paramount Pictures and Showtime.

Under its terms, Tricolor will have rights to broadcast content from ViacomCBS on its online only channels as well as in Ultra HD format on its UHD channels available via satellite TV.

The operator recently stated that the development of film series projects in 2021 is a priority. According to the last year’s report by the company the share of Tricolor’s own channels viewing on the internet reached 30%.

Commenting on the development, Nikolai Orlov, Tricolor’s deputy general director for content policy, said: “We see a high return on quality projects in this format, which is why we are delighted to have reached this agreement with ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group”.

Matthew Downer, senior VP, ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group, added: “We are very pleased to be working with Tricolor to bring our world-class content to viewers throughout Russia.

“Tricolor’s tremendous reach means we can meet the demand for global entertainment in this important market”.

Dmitry Kolesov, TV and content director, J’son & Partners Consulting, said: “For Tricolor, the ability to offer high-quality content to viewers at any time with the ability to control viewing gives it an edge over the competition”.
