Eurosport 4K debuts in Slovakia

March 15, 2021 08.39 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Eurosport 4K has become the first sports channel to be offered in 4K/Ultra HD resolution in Slovakia.

It is being offered to all subscribers of Antik Telecom’s basic IPTV package.

Commenting on the development, Vlastimil Lakatos, head of TV services at Antik Telecom, said: “We are pleased that our enthusiasm for new TV technologies is shared with us by content providers t. It was together with Discovery that we successfully tested the first sports 4K in 2018 broadcast via live broadcasts of Roland Garros tennis in our network.

“Owning a 4K TV and accessing modern TV services from Antik thus got another dimension as we already provide 10 programmes in very high resolution 4K/ Ultra HD”.

Klára Kotenová, distribution affiliate executive representing Discovery in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, added: “Antik is the first to launch Eurosport 4K today. We consider this a key step in the development of our portfolio in Slovakia. We are excited about the development of our partnership, which we started in 2018 and brings Slovak sports fans an even better opportunity to enjoy their popular broadcasts thanks to Eurosport 4K, which today belongs to the top non-stop sports channels in Europe”.

Antik Telecom has distributed 4K boxes as a standard model since 2015. As a result, it already has a large customer base of Ultra HD-equipped clients in its fixed networks.
