The media company 4.vara has been awarded a licence to operate a terrestrial FTA channel in Latvia.
According to the regulator NEPLP, it can make its debut as soon as April 1 and will offer mostly information and educational programmes aimed at all ages. However, its main target audience will be the less informed section of the public who devote only a small amount of time on a daily basis to obtaining information from reliable sources in the internet.
NEPLP adds that 4.vara was the only bidder in the tender to operate the sixth channel that can be distributed free of charge in all cable networks registered in Latvia.
The current five channels are publicly owned LTV1 and LTV7, along with the commercial services Re;TV, RigaTV24 and Sportacentrs.comTV.
