Legal OTT services flourished in Russia last year.
According to figures produces by TMT Consulting, the sector grew by 66% in 2020 to R27.8 billion (€314.3 million).
The paid business model was the clear leader, accounting for R22.9 billion in revenues, an increase of 84% on the previous year. Meanwhile, ad supported services had revenues of R4.9 billion, up 15% on 2019.
At the end of last year, the share of revenue from user payments in the total market volume increase by 8 pp and amounted to 82%.
Although ivi, Okko and Megogo accounted for 32%, 20% and 9% of the Russian OTT market respectively as of the end of last year, their combined share fell from 71% to 61% as smaller players began to make their presence felt.
However, the three market leaders still enjoyed impressive growth in 2020, in the case of ivi increasing its revenues by 44% and almost doubling its subscriber total.
