The Chinese news channel that the UK media regulator found to have links to the Chinese Communist Party is back on German TV screens.
CGTN is once more available on Vodafone’s German cable network, a month after it was pulled following Ofcom’s decision to revoke its UK broadcast licence. Without a licence the channel was unable to broadcast elsewhere in Europe.
Last week, French regulator CSA confirmed that CGTN was now subject to French media law. The channel has broadcast from the French-based satellite operator Eutelsat since 2016.
The green light came with a warning that the regulator was monitoring transmissions that originated outside of Europe.
However, after receiving confirmation from the CSA, Vodafone Deutschland reinstated transmission on March 5, along with those of its sister documentary channel.
