Russia’s leading pay-TV operator Tricolor currently has around 12,000 users of its satellite internet service.
Furthermore, according to Daniil Nirman, Head of the Satellite Internet Department of Tricolor, speaking during the II International Conference SpaceCom Digital Russia 2021, over 90% of these users are individuals. Also, in 2020 Tricolor accounted for about 50% of the total VSAT growth in Russia.
The typical user of the service is a married woman, aged from 35-40 and with higher education. Around half of customers use the service to work from home.
Aleksey Velichko, representative of Konnect, Russia, said: “This year we have become the fastest growing satellite operator in Russia, showing an increase of 64% compared to last year against the background of 9% growth in the satellite internet market as a whole. A significant part of the connections are private users from the central regions of Russia, where it would seem that there are no problems with mobile or cable internet”.
A third of the service’s customers are located in the cities of Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and Kazan.
