France’s TF1 is planning to introduce personalised newscasts by the end of the year.
Quoting Yani Khezzar, the broadcaster’s head of innovation for information, Le Figaro reports that users will be able to choose the duration of the newscasts by specifying their favourite themes while remaining subject to “a common core of current affairs” to respect the hierarchy of information and not to fall “into the trap” of the recommendation algorithms characteristic of social networks and which trap Internet users in bubbles.
Thierry Thullier, TF1’s news director, added that the project, described as a world first, will cost several hundred thousand euros and target an additional niche, namely viewers who do not watch the news at 1pm or 8pm for lack of time or out of habit.
Broadband TV News notes that elsewhere the BBC News can be accessed via any smart speaker, with the broadcaster supplying content to Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri and Google Assistant.
