EXCLUSIVE: SAT>IP Alliance puts activities on hold

February 15, 2021 10.27 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Industry group SAT>IP Alliance has put its activities on hold, a spokesman confirmed to Broadband TV News.

“Today, SAT>IP is a well-established technology. With the standard now set, it will remain easily available to future adopters. Further technical development of SAT>IP is now done in DVB as part of the new DVB Home Broadcasting Standard. As such the SAT>IP Alliance has paused activity,” said the spokesman.

“However, the alliance website will remain active, offering information and materials to any manufacturer or operator that wants to deploy products or services with SAT>IP,” he added.

The SAT>IP protocol enables the conversion of a conventional satellite TV signal (DVB-S) into an IP-based data stream that can be received on multiscreen IP devices, for example on smartphones, tablets or laptops, throughout the household.

The SAT>IP Alliance was founded in 2015 to promote, improve and further develop the technology in collaboration with DVB and to facilitate compliance testing and certification of new devices. The non-profit organisation’s members include satellite operators, manufacturers and service providers, for example SES, Eutelsat, Hispasat, Panasonic, Humax, Red Bee, Nagra, Irdeto and Verimatrix.
