Canal+ has signed an agreement with the French Professional Football League that will give
the pay-TV company exclusive live rights to the country’s top-flight football until the end of the season.
“The LFP and the Canal+ Group are pleased to have found a global solution”, said Canal in a statement issued Thursday.
The partnership with the LFP follows a period of uncertainty after last December’s collapsed agreement with the rights broker Mediapro and an auction earlier this week that failed to reach the reserve price. Canal had not entered the auction, which did attract interest from Amazon, Discovery and DAZN.
Canal will have exclusive rights to all Ligue 1 matches and all but 2 of the ten Ligue 2 games from each round.
The broadcaster will also screen highlights during the week and at weekends.
Financial terms have not been disclosed.
