Orange Slovakia cancels DTH service

January 30, 2021 12.07 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Orange has stopped selling its satellite TV service in Slovakia.

Quoting Martin Hromkovic, Orange Slovakia’s B2C marketing, Zive reports that the reason for doing so is the significant expansion of the availability of its TV services in recent years, combined with a business-strategic focus on higher value-added services.

Zive also says that Orange will probably migrate DTH clients to another type of service in the future but has yet to specify details.

Orange’s IPTV service is currently available to 1.3 million homes via its own fibre network and also that of Slovak Telekom’s.

The most recently published figures show that Orange had a total of 128,000 TV subscribers in Slovakia as of the end of Q3 2020. This was 34.1% higher than the 95,000 posted a year earlier.

The company’s DTH service was launched in August 2018.
