CNN International joins Samsung TV Plus

January 27, 2021 11.26 Europe/London By Julian Clover

CNN International is joining the line-up on Samsung TV Plus, the AVOD (Advertising-Video-on-Demand) service, in the UK and Germany.

It follows an agreement between the WarnerMedia news channel and Rakuten TV.

Rakuten Advertising will also work with CNN International Commercial to provide CNN clients with access to inventory on the CNN presence on Samsung TV Plus.

The company says Samsung TV Plus can serve to pull in sometimes difficult to reach audiences.

Jacinto Roca, CEO and Founder at Rakuten TV said: “The addition of CNN to the AVOD platform TV Plus further demonstrates that global superbrands are recognizing how we’re bringing together the beauty of television with the brains of smart, digital TVs, to reflect how audiences watch – and expect to watch – content in 2021”.

CNN International joins Rakuten TV’s AVOD content offer for TV Plus which so far included themed-channels across genres: Action, Comedy, Drama, Spotlight; as well as Rakuten Viki and Euronews.

Phil Nelson, Chief Operating Officer at CNN International Commercial, said: “At a time when CNN has been more essential than ever before in providing facts and information, we are delighted to expand onto this innovative platform. Making CNN International available via the Rakuten TV platform provides news consumers in the UK and Germany with a new way to access our content, as well as advertisers with another platform through which to engage with those audiences.”

CNN International will be available on the TV Plus app on smart TV devices from Samsung Electronics from 2016 onwards.

In all, Samsung TV Plus is available in 11 countries; US, Canada, UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy, Thailand, and Korea.
