UK broadcasters and media organisations are participating in the launch of Facebook News.
For the first time the social network is rolling out Facebook News outside of the United States. It’s found as part of the regular Facebook app and features news from several hundred national, local and lifestyle titles.
Jesper Doub, Director News Partnerships, Europe says Facebook News puts “original journalism in front of new audiences and provides publishers with more advertising and subscription opportunities to build sustainable businesses for the future.”
Broadcasters Sky News, Channel 4 News and newspaper publishers Daily Mail Group, DC Thomson, Financial Times, and Telegraph Media Group will join an already announced list of The Economist, The Guardian, The Independent, STV and local news sites from Archant, Iliffe, JPI Media, Midlands News Association and Reach.
Readers will see a selection of personalised stories as well as items that have been curated by Facebook’s own team of journalists.
News articles shared by people and Pages will continue to appear in News Feed.
Recently, Facebook recently announced it was extending its Community News Project for another year. The £2.25 million annual training fund in partnership with the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) trained reporters in 80 local newsrooms across the UK, building on the initial £4.5 million investment.
Facebook News is also anticipated to launch in France and Germany.
