VodafoneZiggo to offer discovery+

January 21, 2021 10.30 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Discovery and VodafoneZiggo have signed a new long-term, multi-platform agreement that includes the streaming service discovery+.

Ziggo’s customers will continue to receive Discovery’s portfolio of linear channels including Discovery, TLC, Eurosport, ID, Eurosport 2, Discovery Science and Animal Planet, with Home & Garden TV being added later in the year. Meanwhile, Vodafone customers will in the course of this year be given the opportunity to experience discovery+ for a free trial period. Next to that, Ziggo plans to add discovery+ to its mediabox tv app platform, in order to give its customers easy access to ‘this home of real life entertainment’.

Commenting on the development, Raymond van der Vliet, director content & programming at VodafoneZiggo, said: “We want to provide our customers the best and most complete viewing experience. This means offering easy access to their favourite content. We are excited to extend our existing partnership that offers the current available Discovery channels to our customers. In addition to this, we look forward to collaborate on implementing discovery+ on our platforms. Discovery is a key partner for entertainment, providing a rich choice of unique real-life entertainment content”.

Susanne Aigner, GSVP & GM of Discovery GSA and Benelux, added: “We are delighted to announce this partnership with Netherlands’ largest mobile and fixed network operator. VodafoneZiggo and Discovery have worked together for more than 30 years and we are pleased that our strategic relationship continues to grow. This hybrid agreement advances our broader strategy of expanding our linear distribution relationships to bring our popular content to consumers across more platforms and devices. Thanks to this renewed partnership our viewers and Ziggo’s and Vodafone’s customers will have direct access to the best global and local Discovery content anytime anywhere”.
