The telecom market in Russia was worth R1.79 trillion (€20.07 billion) in 2020, or 2% more than a year earlier.
Furthermore, according to the Analytical Credit Rating Agency (ACRA), its growth in the medium term is expected to be at a level comparable to inflation, or around 4% a year.
ACRA notes that the telecom industry in Russia is amongst the least affected by the pandemic. While it had a negative impact on the mobile sector, it has at the same time contributed to revenue growth from broadband (5-6% for fixed services in 2020).
In addition, the pandemic has not significantly reduced the capital costs of key players in the industry or deteriorated their credit rating.
ACRA also projects the total investment in the development of 5G networks in Russia from 2021-2027 is likely to amount to R1-1.1 trillion.
