Player+ has announced its brought forward the launch of its NewsPlayer+ product ahead of US Presidential Inauguration.
The streaming service is offering 15 channels including Africanews, Germany’s DW-TV, France 24, China’s CGTN, India’s NDTV 24×7, Israel’s i24, Russia’s RT, Australia’s Ticker, Turkey’s TRT and US network NewsNet for a monthly £2.50.
CEO Richard Jacobs told Broadband TV News part of NewsPlayer’s proposition was the curation: “Although some of these channels are available free-to-air in the UK, they are scattered and hard for viewers to find, depending on what TV or other platforms viewers use. Half of UK households don’t subscribe to Sky or Virgin TV and as a result have more limited access to these channels – especially to view on a range of devices.”
The platform can currently be accessed via Amazon Fire TV, browsers, iOS and Android devices, with more added soon.
It’s the first service to be launched by Player+, with further genres to follow in 2021 including StagePlayer+ for the performing arts.
