The Ukrainian regulator National Council has appealed to manufacturers and suppliers of TV sets, media players, smartphones and other devices to no longer source them from Russia.
In a statement, it says that this follows Russia’s decision at the end of last year to approve a list of TV channels and services that have to be pre-installed on such equipment. Some of these TV channels and services are subject to sanctions in Ukraine following a presidential decree that came into effect on May 14, 2020.
The regulator says that it has appealed to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the National Security and Defence Council “to make rapid and effective efforts to prevent the supply of such equipment to Ukraine, otherwise it will create additional risks to public order, strengthen the information influence of the aggressor state and give a new impetus to piracy in Ukraine”.
