The Spanish regulator CNMC has fined Atresmedia and Mediaset, the country’s two leading commercial broadcasters.
In a statement, it says that in the case of Atresmedia the sanction amounts to €183,220 and is for violating the General Law of Audiovisual Communication (LGCA), which regulates “prohibited commercial communications”.
The offence, for covert advertising and classified as serious, occurred on January 2, 2020 on its television channels Antena 3 and La Sexta, and in different time slots. Atresmedia now has two months to file an appeal to the National High Court.
Meanwhile, Mediaset has been fined €49,000 for an unanticipated programming change in violation of LGCA. The offence, classified as minor, took place on its Telecinco channel on May 13, 2020.
Like Atresmedia, Mediaset now has two months to file an appeal to the National High Court if it wishes to do so.
