The French Professional Football League (LFP) has outlined its plans for a tender for the broadcast rights to the Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.
Quoting two sources familiar with the matter, Le Figaro reports that LFP only wants to put on the market the lots abandoned by Mediapro, which held the rights to 80% of the matches in the two leagues.
It adds that Canal+ has nevertheless called for all the rights to be put on the market, including those that it currently holds for 20% of Ligue 1 matches. It intends to return these rights, for which it pays €330 million a year, before making another offer on different lots.
Mediapro initially promised to pay €800 million for the rights it was rewarded but was unable to do so.
It is currently only guaranteed to broadcast matches until the end of this month at the latest and Canal+ until February 5, leaving the LFP with little time to organise the tender.
