Roku has announced what the company is describing as a “significant milestone for Roku and the industry”.
Preliminary estimated data for the fourth quarter ending December 31, 2020 shows the streaming platform to have 51.2 million active accounts. This represents an increase of approximately 14 million accounts in 2020.
At the same time, viewers have streamed an estimated 17 billion hours in the fourth quarter for a total of 58.7 billion hours in 2020, an increase of 55% year over year for the quarter and the full year.
The company, which also supplies the NOW TV streaming devices to shareholder Sky, also runs its own Roku Channel. It is however primarily used to stream services including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and an increasing number of micro-channels.
