The Lithuanian national transmission company Telecentras has completed the sale of its internet, data transmission and IPTV subsidiary Mezon to the Bite group.
In a statement, Vidas Danielius, chairman of the board of Telecentras, said: “This is an important event in the company’s history. With the completion of the Mezon transaction, Telecentras is leaving the retail telecommunications market. The sale of the Mezon business, which took almost two years and required the full commitment of the company’s management team, opens up an opportunity for Telecentras to focus on its core activities as well as take on new strategic areas”.
Following the sale of Mezon, Telecentras will continue to develop and expand its core function of broadcasting TV and radio programmes. Since 2016, the number of FTA terrestrial television channels in Lithuania has increased by a third – currently Telecentras broadcasts 25 national and regional TV programmes on its networks.
In the field of telecommunications services, Telecentras is changing its strategic direction. The company, which has refused to provide retail data transmission services via wireless technologies, will focus on wholesale services and state-important telecommunications and IT infrastructure projects: construction and operation of the highest security data centres and a critical communication network for state special services.
Telecentras has also started the reconstruction of the Vilnius TV tower.
