Successful year for Ukrainian OTT service

December 15, 2020 12.39 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Kyivstar and 1+1 Media have provided an update on their joint online TV service Kyivstar TV.

Launched in 2019 and combining Kyivstar Home TV and Kyivstar Go TV, on its debut its video library consisted of 150 TV channels and about 7,000 films and series from leading local and foreign film studios. Kyivstar TV now offers its users 225 TV channels, 70 of which were launched on the platform in the second half of 2020. The platform’s VOD library has also expanded significantly over the year to 10,000 movies and series with a total duration of over 50,000 hours.

According to Yaroslav Paholchuk, CEO of 1 + 1 Media, “Despite a difficult year for everyone, our joint project with Kyivstar lived up to all expectations placed on it at the start. And even more: Kyivstar TV is currently one of the three OTT operators in terms of the number of subscribers throughout the Ukrainian market, having more than doubled it in a year. I am proud of the truly incredible result of the work of the platform team and I believe that only leadership is ahead of us”.

One of the advantages of the Kyivstar TV platform is the ability to view content from five devices: smartphone, tablet, laptop, smart TV and TV tuner. Most often, users watch content on large screens (smart TV and TV tuners): these devices account for 85% of views. Another 15% share mobile and web devices. But subscribers willingly watch movies by subscription from both big screens and mobile devices. Another feature is the ability to pause the broadcast (catch-up) and save it in the archive. More than 40% of platform users use this option.

Kyivstar president Oleksandr Komarov added: “The development of Kyivstar TV allows us not only to develop a responsible attitude to the consumption of legal content, but also to provide additional privileges to Kyivstar subscribers. Yes, all Kyivstar subscribers can view content without paying for traffic or save up to 50% of the cost of telecom services by choosing Kyivstar All Together tariffs. We are happy with the dynamics of development we see and will continue to actively increase the subscriber base and content on the platform”.
