The Ukrainian regulator National Council has established 44 local digital broadcasting channels in 17 of the country’s regions.
This, according to the National Council, is to ensure the transition of local TV broadcasters to the DVB-T2 standard.
It adds that its decision was made on the basis of conclusions and responses of companies to the Ukrainian Centre of Radio Frequencies on their readiness to broadcast digitally on these channels.
Local broadcasters also informed the National Council about which services would use the channels and this was also approved by the regulator.
National Council notes that due to the pandemic it has been unable to hold broadcasting competitions.
At the same time, the transition of local TV services from analogue to digital remains an urgent issue.
