Volia joins anti-piracy group

December 2, 2020 09.00 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Ukraine’s Volia become an associate member of the Clean Sky Anti-Piracy Initiative.

Volia is a leading national provider of modern telco services: OTT, analogue, digital, HD and interactive TV; high-speed internet access; as well as the services of one of the largest data centres in the country. It offers up to 200 TV channels from Ukrainian and foreign TV companies, online cinemas and content libraries from leading international studios.

Commenting on the development, Sandra Krauinja, Volia’s MD, said: “For many years, our company has been systematically working to promote legal content in Ukraine. We have a long-term contract with leading studios such as Disney, Fox, Universal, Paramount. We are UEFA’s official information partner for Champions League and Europa League football matches. We have invested huge sums in the creation of Volia Cine + movie channels and Volia Football + football channels, which offer the best entertainment for Ukrainians. We know the price of piracy. Our goal is to make changes in the minds of Ukrainians so that giving up pirated content becomes a habit for them, such as sorting garbage”.

She added that consuming legal content is an honest attitude towards those who produce it, investing their energy and time in it. This approach will allow content makers to implement new ideas, as well as improve the quality of the final product. “Combining the efforts of all market participants in the framework of the Clean Sky Initiative will allow us to effectively promote the ideas of “anti-piracy” and legal content in Ukraine”.

Vyacheslav Mienko, head of the Clean Sky Initiative, said: “Associate membership in the Clean Sky of a company like Volia will give the Initiative even more effectiveness in the fight against piracy in Ukraine.

“Volia has a strong position in the telecom market and I am sure that other players in the tmarket will follow the company’s example. We are happy to continue the fight against piracy and to develop the legal content market together and intensively”.

Mykola Faengold, deputy head of the Clean Sky Initiative, added: “We have always emphasised the need to join the fight against pirates, both rights holders and providers. Volia combines both directions. As Volia is the largest TV provider in Ukraine, we expect other service providers to follow suit and make the fight as effective as possible”.
