Vodafone Deutschland offers Apple TV 4K as OTT receiver

December 2, 2020 06.00 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Vodafone Deutschland is now offering the Apple TV 4K box to viewers who want to access its OTT platform GigaTV.

The streaming device is an alternative to the proprietary GigaTV Net box, which will continue to be offered, as Vodafone explained in an online press conference.

The rent of the Apple box and access via the GigaTV app cost €9.99 per month for the first six months and €19.99 per month thereafter. The package is offered as a 24-month contract. Customers who already own an Apple TV 4K box can use GigaTV via the GigaTV app at a monthly price of €9.99; the first month is free.

The models that Vodafone is making available for rental are the original Apple TV 4K boxes, which also includes all the other services and features of Apple TV, for example Apple’s live TV and on-demand services and the App Store, a Vodafone spokesperson confirmed.

Apple TV 4K and the GigaTV Net box are primarily aimed at households which are not Vodafone cable TV customers. The streaming boxes allow them to access the GigaTV platform via any internet service provider. For traditional cable customers, Vodafone continues to offer the GigaTV Cable box and the Horizon box.

GigaTV combines linear television and on-demand content on a single user interface. The line-up includes up to 120 TV channels in SD and HD resolution as well as content from up to 69 catch-up TV services.
