TVN inks Emitel distribution deal

December 2, 2020 12.33 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Polish broadcaster TVN and national transmission company have signed an agreement for the distribution of the channels TVN and TVN7 on the second multiplex (MUX-2).

Valid for 10 years, it takes into account the necessary channel changes and the DVB-T2 /HEVC broadcasting and encoding standard, due to take place in 2022.

The signing of a new contract marks the continuation of cooperation between TVN and Emitel. The previous agreement was in force from 2010 and also concerned MUX-2. Working with Emitel, TVN changed its broadcasting standard from analogue to digital and increased the reach of the two channels.

Commenting on the agreement, Andrzej J. Kozlowski, president of the management board at Emitel, said: “Ten years ago, we implemented a project of migration from analogue to digital broadcasting, which was very important from the point of view of the television market. Every day, 24/7, regardless of the weather conditions, our specialists ensure the continuity of broadcasting, so that millions of viewers can enjoy the reception of popular TVN Group Discovery programmes. We are facing another challenge related to channel changes throughout Poland and switching the broadcast to the new DVB-T2 / HEVC broadcasting standard. The project is very complex and requires the reconstruction of almost the entire broadcasting network in a very ambitious schedule. I am glad that TVN Group Discovery has entrusted us with the implementation of this project. Continued cooperation in the field of broadcasting programmes on the second multiplex was extremely important to us”.
