DAZN launches linear sports TV channels in Germany via Vodafone

November 18, 2020 10.01 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Streaming service DAZN launches two linear sports channels on Vodafone Deutschland’s TV platforms in Germany.

The DAZN package, which customers can subscribe to with immediate effect, comprises the DAZN app as well as the two new channels DAZN 1 and DAZN 2, making Vodafone the first and only provider in Germany to distribute DAZN content in the form of two linear TV channels for private customers in addition to the app and website.

On the two HD channels, DAZN’s sports content, including matches of the German Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, is shown for around 16 hours per day. The schedule is based on the two linear DAZN channels which have been available for some time in restaurants, bars, hotels, betting shops and serviced apartments in Germany and Austria.

The offer is available to GigaTV customers (cable, ADSL/net) and within all Vodafone TV tariffs in combination with a smartcard. Where no cable network is available, TV customers can watch DAZN broadcasts via the GigaTV Net Box.

The first month is free of charge, after that the monthly subscription fee amounts to €9.99. The minimum contract period is 12 months.

“DAZN’s philosophy is to make premium sports more accessible and affordable for all fans. This consumer-centric partnership with Vodafone now brings DAZN to more than five million German households, regardless of whether they can access the app on their set-top box and lets them pay for all their entertainment on a single bill. It is a great example of how entertainment services and operators can collaborate together to deliver more intuitive and satisfying viewing experiences to all sports fans,” said Ben King, Chief Subscription Officer at DAZN Group.

The launch extends the partnership between DAZN and Vodafone that recently saw the DAZN app pre-installed on Vodafone’s GigaTV platform in Germany. The DAZN app is also integrated on the Vodafone TV Box in Italy in a further tie-up.

DAZN launched a linear channel in Italy last year called DAZN1, showing selected content including Serie A, Serie B football and other sports.
