Turkey outlines satellite plans

November 17, 2020 09.42 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Turksat’s latest satellite Turksat 5A will be launched in mid-December.

Quoted by Hurriyet, the company’s general manager Cenk Sen added that it will employ the latest technology and have more capacity, enabling expanded coverage.

The Ku-band frequency Turksat 5A will carry 42 transponders and spend over 30 years in orbit. Furthermore, it will be located at the little-used Turkish orbital slot of 31 degrees East.

Sen said that its coverage area will include the Middle East, southern Europe and large parts of Africa.

Both Turksat 5A and Turksat 5B are being constructed by Airbus, with the later due to launch in 2021.

Turksat is also building a satellite on its own – Turksat 6A – to be launched in 2022.
