Discovery teams up with Megogo

November 11, 2020 12.49 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Discovery is to launch the real-life entertainment streaming service discovery+ in 13 countries across Eastern Europe and Asia through a strategic partnership with The online video and TV services provider Megogo. Starting next month, discovery+ will be brought to Megogo customers in Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Lithuania, Estonia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

Discovery+ combines Discovery’s factual and entertainment library with sports and offers the best content from Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, ID, Discovery Science, Food Network, Travel Channel, as well as Eurosport.
Thousands of hours of VOD shows and lots of additional live sports content on top of Eurosport 1 HD and Eurosport 2 HD will be made available to Megogo subscribers, as part of the Basic subscription or as a direct buy-through option for all Megogo’s users.

Commenting on the development, Ekaterina Mihajlovic, distribution and business development director Discovery North Eastern Europe & Turkey, said: “We’re particularly pleased to share this milestone moment with Megogo, who have been with us every step of the way in our quest to reach fans of real-life entertainment across an extended number of 13 territories in our region. We are very happy to bring our portfolio on their platform, which is incredibly innovative and creates a flawless user experience and interaction for Megogo subscribers with our factual and sports content”.

Jamie Cooke, GSVP, Discovery CEEMCA, MEA & Russia, added: “This new partnership aims to satisfy consumers’ growing appetite for premium unscripted entertainment, as well as sports. We have great relationships with our partners and see a path to a compelling aggregated consumer proposition, as part of our upcoming strategic agreements. We will continue to develop these moving forward, by leveraging our best-in-class content with brands, storytelling, and characters that people love and partners need”.

Ivan Shestakov, chief innovation officer at Megogo, said: “We always strive to provide our users with high-quality and relevant content. We are very proud to launch discovery+, which has incredible entertainment content with a wide catalog that will allow even the most sophisticated users to find something interesting and useful for themselves. We are looking forward to the launch in December 2020”.
