Four out of 10 Spaniards watch news programmes on the public broadcaster RTVE.
According to a study undertaken by the regulator CNMC, the figure has remained stable since 2016 despite viewing of RTVE channels as of whole continuing to fall. As of Q2 this year, they were seen by 58% of individuals.
CNMC says that the public broadcaster’s channels have a mainly older audience, being watch by 60% of those aged 35-49, 68% aged 50-64 and 77% aged 65 and over. Among those aged between 10-15, the figure stood at 45%. News is also more popular among older viewers, with over half of those aged over 50 watch it on RTVE’s channels and the figure falling to 20% in the 25-34 age group.
Almost a third of the Spaniards say that programming on RTVE’s channels (La 1, La 2, Canal 24 hours, Teledeporte and Clan TV) is varied and of good quality.
Only 17% said they were dissatisfied with the quality and variety of the content on the channels.
