Vodafone plans to build its own fixed internet network in Ukraine.
Speaking to Interfax, the company’s CEO Olga Ustinova said that it decided on the move at a strategic meeting with its shareholder, adding that this would be one of its development priorities in the next two years.
Work has in fact already started on the network and investment is likely to be in the hundreds of millions, up to a billion, hrvnas.
Ustinova also said that Vodafone Ukraine does not rule out the possibility of using a hybrid model, which would involve building on greenfield sites and buying other companies. Ultimately, it plans to offer converged services as this is what customers want.
In a separate development, Vodafone Ukraine has reduced the cost of its popular package Optimal, giving access to over 170 channels, to UAH99 (€2.93) a month. It has also introduced a new package named Optimal Sport.
Aside from leading sports channels, it includes all the services offered in the Optimal package and costs UAH209 a month.
